Text Box: Since its inception in 1922, The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) has played a leading role in making special education work for students with exceptionalities-students with disabilities and/or gifts and talents-and those who serve them.  Throughout history, CEC has fought successfully to ensure that children and youth with special needs get appropriate educational services and that those who work with these students have the resources, tools, and training necessary to perform their job effectively and efficiently.

CEC:
advocates for appropriate governmental policies,

helps professionals obtain conditions and resources necessary for effective professional practice.
